London-based cybersecurity startup Ossprey has raised $2.7 million in pre-seed funding in a round led by Episode 1 Ventures, with participation from Osney Capital and Octopus Investments.

The company said the round was oversubscribed and described it as one of the largest pre-seed raises by a UK cybersecurity startup to date. Ossprey is building a platform that continuously scans open source packages across major ecosystems to detect malicious code before it reaches a developer’s machine or enters production.

The raise comes as software teams rely more heavily on open source components and AI-assisted development tools, increasing the volume of third-party code entering enterprise systems. Since closing the round, Ossprey said it has grown to seven employees, expanded its platform, and launched public scanning designed to identify newly published malicious packages.

The new funding will support hiring and product expansion in the UK, alongside plans to enter Europe and North America, with a focus on organisations building software at enterprise scale.
