ICEYE, the Helsinki-based Finnish-Polish satellite company, has raised €1 billion in a new funding round led by General Atlantic, marking one of the largest recent financings in Europe’s defence and space technology sector.

The round included €450 million in primary funding and more than €550 million in a secondary placement, valuing the company at about €10 billion. Other investors named in the round include Qatar Investment Authority, Solidium, Tesi, Varma, Ilmarinen, Lifeline Ventures, Nokia and TCV.

ICEYE builds synthetic aperture radar satellites that can capture imagery through cloud cover and at night, a capability with growing relevance for defence and sovereign space infrastructure. The company said the new capital will help it expand faster as Europe increases investment in autonomous defence systems and space capabilities.

Founded by Rafał Modrzewski, ICEYE is part of a broader wave of investor interest in European defence tech, as governments and private capital place greater emphasis on satellite intelligence and resilience.
