Fusion Bionic GmbH, a Dresden-based developer of laser-based surface functionalization technology, has secured a total of €8.2 million, combining a €5.8 million seed round with €2.4 million earmarked for two industrial projects.
The seed financing was led by Stream Capital, with participation from TGFS Technology Startup Fund Saxony, Saxony SME Investment Company (MBG), and Saxon Investment Company (SBG), which also invested through the Innovation Capital Saxony Fund (RIG).
Founded as a spin-off from Fraunhofer IWS, Fusion Bionic develops Direct Laser Interference Patterning technology, which is used to create functional surface properties for industrial applications including friction reduction, wettability control, anti-icing, and product protection.
The new funding will support the company’s plans to scale its technology internationally and expand the industrial adoption of bio-inspired surface functionalization.
