Paris-based startup Upstream has announced a $3 million pre-seed round backed by Y Combinator, Connect Ventures, and a group of angel investors including Koen Bok, Jorn van Dijk, Nicolas Dessaigne, Julien Lemoine, Linda Tong, Jean-Charles Samuelian-Werve, Dave King, and Roxanne VARZA.

Founded in 2023, Upstream is building a modern email client designed for team collaboration. The company says its product helps teams manage conversations with more context and visibility, while AI agents sort incoming noise, draft replies in the user’s voice, follow up at the right time, and handle tasks such as finding receipts or scheduling meetings.

The funding comes as startups continue to explore new approaches to workplace communication, particularly around asynchronous collaboration and inbox overload. Alongside the financing announcement, Upstream said it is now open to the public without a waitlist.
