London-based biotechnology startup Houdini Bio has emerged from stealth after raising nearly £1.5 million to prove the science behind its AI-powered therapeutic DNA design platform.

The company is backed by Science Creates, Deep Science Ventures and Cambridge Enterprise Ventures. Houdini Bio said it achieved in six months what it had originally expected to take 18, as it works to address a persistent challenge in genetic medicine: the silencing of therapeutic DNA inside cells.

Houdini Bio is developing a platform that rewrites therapeutic DNA to evade innate silencing pathways without changing its intended biological function. The approach is designed for use across gene therapies, cell therapies and biomanufacturing, with the aim of improving potency and durability while reducing dose requirements and costs.

The funding will be used to further validate the underlying science as the company moves out of stealth.
