Spanish startup Cala has emerged from stealth with a €7 million pre-seed round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, joining a growing wave of infrastructure startups building tools for AI agents and developer workflows.
Founded in Barcelona by Elisenda Bou-Balust and Issey Masuda Mora, Cala is developing a verified knowledge layer for AI systems. Its product, Matter of Facts, structures public web information into machine-readable datasets covering areas such as companies, people, pharmaceuticals, legal cases, financial instruments, and products.
The round also included Kibo Ventures, Kfund, and Masia. Cala says its platform is designed for developers building systems that need factual, current, and structured data, offering access through a REST API, CLI, MCP server, and software development kits for Python and TypeScript.
