Azalea Vision, a healthtech startup based in Ghent, Belgium, has been selected for the European Innovation Council Accelerator and will receive up to €7.5 million to support the development of its medical-grade smart contact lens platform.

The package includes a €2.5 million non-dilutive grant and a planned €5 million equity investment from the EIC Fund. The company said the funding will be used to advance the platform into clinical development, support upcoming clinical work, and complete final engineering steps needed to bring the technology to patients.

Founded in 2021 as a spin-off from imec and Ghent University, Azalea Vision is developing a smart lens platform designed to sense, adapt and connect in real time. The technology combines adaptive optics, microelectronics, liquid-crystal components and connectivity, with applications in vision correction and tear-based health monitoring.
