A research-developed pumped-storage energy concept from the University of Innsbruck that stores energy by moving a heavy water-filled piston in a cylindrical shaft. Demonstrated with lab and outdoor prototypes (up to 6 m, 42-ton weight); planned larger underground versions (20 m and up to 100 m).
