The Toulouse-based company said the new financing brings its total funding to more than €67 million. UNIVITY is developing wholesale space infrastructure designed to help telecom operators deliver high-speed, low-latency internet access from space alongside terrestrial networks.
The funding will be used to support UNIVITY’s VLEO and 5G strategy, with a focus on the uniShape programme, which the company describes as the first VLEO-based 5G NTN demonstrator developed with support from CNES. As part of that effort, UNIVITY plans to assemble, integrate, test and operate two VLEO 5G satellites in orbit, with the goal of validating an end-to-end high-throughput 5G NTN service and direct-to-cell smartphone connectivity.
Founded by Charles Delfieux and Véronique Bonnet, UNIVITY is positioning its model around a wholesale approach for telecom operators rather than a direct-to-consumer satellite service, as competition grows around hybrid terrestrial and space-based connectivity.
