Dutch food ingredients startup The Protein Brewery has raised an €18 million extension to its Series B round, with ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund joining as lead investor. Existing backers Invest-NL, Novo Holdings, Madeli, and Brabant Development Agency also participated.

The Breda-based company develops fermented food ingredients through biomass fermentation, including its flagship mycelium ingredient, Fermotein®. The new financing brings its total funding to more than €70 million and follows the company’s 2025 Series B.

According to the company, the capital will be used to expand production capacity at its Mijkenbroek facility to more than 2,000 metric tons, support its commercial rollout in Europe after summer 2026, fund further clinical and scientific research, and pursue regulatory approvals in markets including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and India.

The raise comes as The Protein Brewery prepares for broader European sales and seeks to scale manufacturing in a growing market for alternative and functional food ingredients.
