UK based advanced manufacturing company StirLight has secured 1.25 million GBP in funding to accelerate the commercialisation of its proprietary StirSense platform. The capital includes over 750000 GBP in pre-seed investment from Haatch Ventures, the British Business Bank, D2N2 and several angel investors, alongside approximately 500000 GBP in grant funding from Innovate UK and the Aerospace Technology Institute.
StirLight focuses on friction stir welding technology, a method that creates high strength joints without filler materials. While the technique offers efficiency and structural benefits, industrial adoption has historically been limited by the difficulty of verifying weld quality during the production process. The company developed StirSense to provide real time process monitoring and anomaly detection for manufacturers in the aerospace, automotive, defence, nuclear, and energy sectors.
The newly raised funds will support pilot deployments of the StirSense platform with industrial partners, the hiring of engineering and data science talent, and continued development of the core technology. The company, based in North Derbyshire, has been generating revenue through contract manufacturing and consulting services since March 2024.
