Solar Foods has secured €77.8 million in public funding from Business Finland to support the construction and commissioning of Factory 02 in Lappeenranta, Finland, marking a significant step in the company’s scale-up plans for its protein product Solein.

The package, announced on 17 June 2026, includes a €39.6 million grant and a €38.1 million R&D loan tied to the company’s IPCEI approval from the European Commission. The funding is intended to cover the implementation phase of Factory 02, including construction, equipment delivery, installation, commissioning, and production ramp-up ahead of mass production.

Solar Foods produces Solein using carbon dioxide and electricity, a process designed to operate independently of weather and conventional agriculture. The new funding will also support process optimization, productivity and energy efficiency targets, and the broader commercialization of Solein.

The award remains conditional on Solar Foods making a final investment decision on Factory 02 and securing the project’s full financing package.
