Leipzig-based biotech startup Primogene has raised €4.1 million in seed funding to expand its enzymatic production platform for complex bioactive molecules used in nutrition, personal care, and pharmaceutical applications.

The round was led by High-Tech Gründerfonds, with participation from Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen, better ventures, Sächsische Beteiligungsgesellschaft, Golzern Holding GmbH, FS Life Science Investment GmbH, and Dr. Marc Struhalla.

Founded in 2023 by Dr.-Ing. Reza Mahour, Valerian Grote, and Linda Karger, Primogene is developing enzymatic processes to produce bioidentical human milk oligosaccharides and related molecules at industrial scale. The company says its technology is designed as an alternative to conventional fermentation-based production for structurally complex compounds.

Primogene plans to use the funding to expand its IP portfolio, build strategic partnerships, increase production capacity in Leipzig, grow its team, and support the industrial launch of its products.
