Oxford-based Moa Technology has raised £22.2 million in a Series C financing round co-led by Oxford Science Enterprises and Supernova Invest, as investors back new approaches to tackling herbicide resistance in agriculture.

New investors in the round include Agri Investment Fund, GrainInnovate, Infinity Investment Partners, and Magdalen College Oxford. Existing backers Oxford Science Enterprises, Lansdowne Partners, Parkwalk, and Oxford University Innovation also participated.

Moa, which develops novel mode of action herbicides aimed at helping farmers protect crops from resistant weeds, said the funding will help move its three most advanced programmes closer to commercialisation. The company also plans to expand its early-stage pipeline and continue developing its Moa Amplifiers programme, which is designed to reduce the amount or concentration of herbicides needed.
