The company says the financing is the largest seed round to date for in-space manufacturing. The round was co-led by LocalGlobe and BREEGA, with participation from Seedcamp, Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund, Type One Ventures, 7percent Ventures, and angel investors.
BioOrbit is working on ways to use microgravity to produce protein crystals for biologic drugs, with the aim of enabling formulation pathways that are difficult or impossible to achieve on Earth. Its BOX system is designed as a compact, autonomous manufacturing unit that can operate in orbit.
The new funding will be used to accelerate the transition from research to industrial deployment and to turn the company’s microgravity manufacturing advances into contracted pharmaceutical programs.
