Altilium has secured 18.5 million GBP in grant funding from the UK government through the DRIVE35 Scale-Up Fund. The Plymouth-based clean technology firm plans to use this investment to construct its ACT3 facility, which will serve as the first commercial plant in the United Kingdom dedicated to recycling electric vehicle batteries and recovering critical minerals.

The new facility is designed to process 24,000 EV batteries annually. By producing nickel, lithium, and graphite from recycled feedstocks, Altilium intends to strengthen the domestic supply chain for battery materials and reduce dependence on imported raw materials. The project is expected to begin construction in the summer of 2026, with full operations targeted for the end of 2027.

This funding, delivered by the Department for Business and Trade in partnership with the Advanced Propulsion Centre and Innovate UK, is part of a broader government strategy to support the transition to zero-emission vehicles. The initiative is expected to create 70 new jobs in the region and provide a framework for future industrial-scale expansion.
