The company is developing a stomach-based solution designed to break down alcohol before it is absorbed into the bloodstream. Alcolase is targeting a condition that affects more than 500 million people in East Asia and is associated with symptoms including facial flushing, nausea, dizziness and increased heart rate.
According to the company, the new funding will be used to support an in vivo study, further develop the technology, strengthen its intellectual property position and take initial steps toward commercial partnerships in leading markets. Alcolase has also established a UK subsidiary as it expands development of its delivery platform for broader therapeutic use cases.
The round marks an early step for the Denmark-based startup as it moves from laboratory proof of concept toward clinical validation and potential market entry.
