Finnish deep-tech startup Aavuus has raised an undisclosed pre-seed round led by Maki.vc, as the company looks to develop new infrastructure for tracking space debris in Low Earth Orbit.

Aavuus, a spinout from the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute, is building a global network of ground-based laser stations designed to detect and track debris with high precision. The company aims to generate more accurate orbital data for space situational awareness and collision avoidance, an area of growing importance as congestion in orbit increases.

With the funding, Aavuus plans to build its first MVP, validate performance, and begin working with early customers that need more reliable debris tracking data in live operations.

The deal reflects continued investor interest in space infrastructure startups tackling the operational risks created by a rising number of satellites and debris objects in orbit.
